Dark Mysteries #1 - Wally Wood art & cover + 1st issue

Wally Wood
Dark Mysteries v1 #1, 1951 - In the opening tale, the timbers from a cursed ship are re-used for a luxury yacht, drawing the wrath of a specter. Aside from the frightening opening splash, Wally Wood's story art mostly struggles with basic drawing and layout. An unknown inker (perhaps Sid Check?) fails to bring clarity to the often amateurish pencils. Wood's cover design fares much better. The figures are skillfully drawn and proportioned. Details are ample, from the folds of the characters' clothing to the chiseled background. Joe Orlando's inks add greater enhancements. This issue also includes artwork by Lou Cameron. This is 1 of 2 Dark Mysteries issues by Wood. /// key 1st issue
