Jack Kirby |
Foxhole v1 #3, 1955 - Despite the garish colors, Jack Kirby's cover captures a GI burdened with an injured buddy. The figures are drawn with weight and mass, filling up most of the composition. Covered in filth, the artist emphasizes the unromantic aspects of war. I especially like the way the soldier's boots partially disappear into the mud and mire, suggesting the difficulty. Other artists in this issue include Jo Albistur. This is 3 of 6
