What If (the Avengers Fought Evil During the 1950s?) v1 #9, 1978 - This imaginary tale places the origin of the group a decade earlier, replacing core Avengers members with Venus, Gorilla Man, the Human Robot, Marvel Boy and the 3-D Man. Thor, Captain America and Iron Man, clearly aghast with the idea, fade into the background. Quite typically, Jack Kirby places the figures in motion within a reasonable layout. Simple and straightforward, the effort just meets expectations. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Alan Kupperberg and Bill Black.
