Conan the Barbarian v1 #13, 1972 - Saved by an old man from dying in the desert, Conan repays his debt by rescuing his daughter from a cult of spider worshippers. The spontaneity of Barry Smith's art usually compensates for its rawness, but in this case Sal Buscema's inks hinder rather than help. Faces and figures are too clearly delineated, calling attention to their distortions. Smith's cover fares better, with its sweeping circular path and radial layout. This story was later reprinted in Savage Sword of Conan special #1. This is 13 of 22 Conan the Barbarian issues by Smith. /// Smith gallery / original cover / unpublished cover
