Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #1 - John Byrne art + 1st issue

John Byrne
Further Adventures of Indiana Jones v1 #1, 1983 - Marvel adapted the Spielberg movies a few years earlier in Marvel Super Special series, but this first issue is the first attempt at an ongoing comic book series with new stories. John Byrne teams up with inker Terry Austin on this wildly adventurous tale. The artists capture the likeness of actor Harrison Ford more successfully than most, adding more credibility to the series. The most impressive aspect of Byrne's art is the array of textures, from Indy's perpetual five o' clock shadow to the exotic backgrounds. Beautifully paced and laid out, this issue gives the series a worthy start. Cover by Terry Austin. This is 1 of 2 Further Adventures of Indiana Jones issues by Byrne. /// key 1st issue

Neat! I didn't know there had been an Indy comic book. Did Marvel snatch up most of the work producing comics based on movies/t.v. in the 80s? (Didn't they produce the Star Wars comics...and also the Transformers?)

Marvel did dominate during the 70s and 80s. Copyright owners have always negotiated rights with publishers, often moving the property for a more lucrative deal. For example, Star Trek was licensed to Gold Key (1960s), then Marvel (1980s), then DC (1990s).
