10.  Howard the Duck v1 #1, 1975 - One of the most original bronze age characters, Howard the Duck was conceived by writer Steve Gerber. He first appeared in Fear #19 as a supporting character, but soon graduated to back-up stories in Giant-size Man-ThingFrank Brunner, the artist on those tales, was the natural choice for the character's self-titled series. His fine lines and detailed shading bring depth and a sense of realism to an otherwise cartoonish character. Steve Leialoha reinforces this with his supple inking. Brunner's artwork is enjoyable and entertaining, setting a high standard for the character. This story was later reprinted in Marvel Treasury #12. To increase sales, Spider-man makes a guest appearance. This is 1 of 2 Howard the Duck issues by Brunner. /// key 1st cover Howard the Duck, 1st issue / Brunner gallery
