Detective Comics #499 - Don Newton art

Detective Comics #499
Detective Comics v1 #499, 1981 - Trapped deep in a mine in West Virginia, Batman and the Blockbuster put aside their conflict to save a crew of locals. Don Newton's work is terrific throughout, enhanced by Dan Adkins' inks. Added details and textures are used in the underground scenes, made more prominent by the limited color palette. Newton delivers one of his more memorable efforts on the series. This story was later reprinted in Tales of the Batman: Gerry Conway #1. Other artists in this copper age comic include Joe Giella and Jose Delbo. Cover by Jim Aparo. This is 19 of 39 Detective Comics issues by Newton.
