Detective Comics #539 - Don Newton art

Detective Comics #539
Detective Comics v1 #539, 1984 - The death of the champ prompts a fellow boxer to find the killer. Rather than stopping him, the Batman agrees to join forces and make the rounds together. Don Newton's hand is evident throughout the story, but too many scenes lack sharpness and clarity. Bob Smith's inks are mostly to blame, loosely applied where more definition was needed. Newton's influence is most keenly felt on the interior page below. This story is his last on the series, later reprinted in Best of DC #62. Other artists in this copper age comic include Shawn McManus and Sal Trapani. This is 39 of 39 Detective Comics issues by Newton.
