Diary Secrets / Blue Ribbon Comics v2 #2 - Matt Baker cover

Matt Baker
Diary Secrets / Blue Ribbon Comics v2 #2, 1949 - One of Matt Baker's earliest romance covers, a couple draws closer together while a third party schemes in the background. This love triangle theme would occur all too often, appearing on many romance covers throughout the decades. This issue also marks Baker's transition from other genres (superhero, jungle, adventure, etc.). His artistic approach is noticeably softer in tone than previous works. Though nicely detailed, the drawing itself lacks his usual polish and precision. Other artists in this issue include Warren King. This is number 1 of 3 Blue Ribbon Comics v2 issues with Baker art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Baker or Blue Ribbon Comics issues. See also this blog's Baker checklist.
