Hollywood Pictorial #3 - Matt Baker art

Hollywood Pictorial (Romances) v1 #3, 1950 - Ignoring opportunities for romance, a young dancer works her way up from being an extra to a solo performer. Matt Baker's tale of ambition begins with a fairly mundane opening splash. The main character is introduced with little visual indication of her profession or the scenario. Subsequent pages are recognizable in his own softly alluring style. However, in general his drawings and layouts are largely uninspired. Even the story's ending seems abrupt and poorly planned. This early foray into romance comics demonstrates a young Baker still honing his craft. This story was later reprinted in Pictorial Romances #10. Other artists in this issue include Jim Pabian. This is number 1 of 1 Hollywood Pictorial issues with Baker art and/or covers.
