Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde / A Star Presentation #3 - Wally Wood art & cover

Wally Wood
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde / A Star Presentation v1 #3, 1950 - Robert Louis Stevenson's novel is adapted for comics for the first time. A young Wally Wood handles the artistic chores early in his career. Though enthusiastic, the pages with often filled with crudely applied drawings. Glimpses of his talent appear in a few panels, but overall the artist struggles. On the other hand, Wood delivers a memorably arresting cover. Especially effective is how the female figure visually splits the two conflicting personalities. The artist also draws the brief horror tale accompanying the main feature. Both stories were later reprinted in This Is Suspense #23. Compare this issue to Nestor Redondo's bronze age version in Marvel Classics Comics #1. This is 1 of 1 Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde issues by Wood.
