Battle #69 - Jack Kirby art & cover

Jack Kirby
Battle v1 #69, 1959 - Faced with two oncoming Japanese battleships, a submarine crew goes on the attack against all odds. Layouts and pacing are meticulously planned by Jack Kirby. His panel drawings vary without sacrificing the storytelling. Joe Sinnott's inking opts for a minimum of shadows, making the scenes inside the submarine unusually bright and airy. Kirby's pencils are streamlined and engaging, more so than his overworked cover design. Other artists in this golden age war comic include Russ Heath, Carl Burgos and John Severin. This is 6 of 7 Battle issues by Kirby.
