X-Men #7 - Jack Kirby art & cover

Jack Kirby
X-Men v1 #7, 1964 - Professor X leaves, passing the leadership mantle over to Cyclops. Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants resurface, attempting to recruit the Blob into their ranks. Jack Kirby's opening splash of the graduating X-men is more than a little silly. Still, he compensates with many more skillfully drawn pages and an arresting cover. Some of the best panels include the introduction of Cerebro (page 5), a beatnik nightclub (page 12) and Magneto's torpedo-led attack (page 17). Kirby's artistry applies to both dynamic and relatively calm scenes. This story was later reprinted in Amazing Adventures v4 #13. This is 7 of 17 X-men issues by Kirby.

The Blob ! I actually read this one not too long ago on one of the Marvel Masterworks volumes. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were such an amazing creative team.

Great blog, by the way, if you feel up to it you can visit mine (which is also comic book related).

Cheers!
