Fantastic Four #1 - Jack Kirby art & cover + 1st appearance

Jack Kirby
Fantastic Four v1 #1, 1961 - When their experimental rocket is bombarded with cosmic rays and crashes back to Earth, a group of adventurers suddenly find themselves stricken with super-powers. Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Girl), Johnny Storm (Human Torch) and Ben Grimm (Thing) dedicate themselves to helping humanity. Their first appearance begins with the threat of the Mole Man, presented on Jack Kirby's iconic cover. Inside, their origin is drawn with a look and feel of a science fiction comic. The way three of the characters reveal themselves in full public view seems especially innovative.  The variety of Kirby's creature designs add greater scale and interest in many scenes. Like much of his work from the 1960s, his visuals tell the stories succinctly but lack the gravitas of later works. This Stan Lee-written tale was later reprinted in Origins of Marvel Comics. This is 1 of 116 Fantastic Four issues by Kirby. /// key 1st appearance, 1st cover, 1st origin Fantastic Four, Mole Man, 1st issue

"Bah! I cannot delay!" -such grim speech patterns for Benjamin Grimm.
