The Shadow v2 #1 - Mike Kaluta art & cover

The Shadow v2 #1, 1973 - An artfully painted portrait of the Shadow dominates the background, contrasting against the line drawing below. Mike Kaluta's cover is an arresting image, setting the film noir tone of the entire series. Inside his distinctive illustrative style seems perfectly suited for the 1930s-era settings. Fine linework is pervasive throughout the story, although the best pages incorporate more black areas. The introduction of the autogyro (see interior page above) is a high point artistically. The Shadow would become Kaluta's signature bronze age character and deservedly so. This is number 1 of 8 Shadow issues with Kaluta art and/or covers.
