The Unexpected #221 - Steve Ditko art, Joe Kubert cover

Joe Kubert
The Unexpected v1 #221, 1982 - Unobstructed by word Steve Ditko's tale, by contrast, emphasizes the abstract and fantastical. An energy being arrives on Earth, wreaking havoc on whole cities. Ditko opens with a destructive splash page, then curiously hands over the inking chores to Gary Martin. The inker maintains the integrity of the original pencils, but just barely. Joe Kubert's swirling cover reinforces the issue's sci-fi theme. Other artists in this copper age comic include Vic Catan, Dick Ayers, Mike Zeck and John Beatty. This is 2 of 2 Unexpected issues by Ditko and 7 of 7 Unexpected issues by Kubert.

I believe what happened with the Ditko story was that Ditko was originally going to ink the story but it went into inventory and was not completed until much later, when DC's policy was to assign an inker to Ditko's pencils.
