House of Mystery #276 - Steve Ditko art

House of Mystery #276, 1980 - Told in poetic rhyme, a tale of a newly wedded couple seems partially inspired by the works of Edgar Allen Poe. Steve Ditko adheres to the pacing and rhythm by mostly using a equally sized nine panel grid. The artwork is adequate, and his drawings become more detailed as the story progresses. Mike Kaluta's cover refers to the Ditko story, and does a splendid job depicting the groom's homicidal tendencies. Mike Nasser also draws a story in this issue. New Gods #17 - Don Newton art, Jim Starlin cover

New Gods #17, 1978 - The memories of the New Gods are siphoned off by Darkseid's technology, their secrets revealed in the upper half of the composition. Jim Starlin opens the issue with an appealing cover montage, visually separating the memories from the present through lighting. The foreground faces and Darkseid's double-fisted hands are specially telling. Don Newton and Dan Adkins team up for another terrific issue, seemingly improving with each effort. Of the three splash pages, page three showcases the artists' skillful rendering of machinery. While not of the same caliber as Wally Wood, it's an overall competent job.
