Tarzan #211 - Joe Kubert art & cover

Tarzan of the Apes #211, 1972 - A newspaper strip story by Burne Hogarth is re-purposed for this issue, its panels recomposed for the comic book format. Joe Kubert supplies the sumptuously drawn first three pages, then adds panels throughout the tale where necessary. Hogarth, Hal Foster and Jesse Marsh are among the finest Tarzan artists of all time. Despite adhering to the character designs, Kubert's style is looser and grittier, making his contributions obvious. I count twelve panels scattered throughout the story, perhaps more. Although a reprint issue, Kubert also comes through with a terrifically eye-catching cover. Other artists in this issue include Hal Foster (reprints). This is number 5 of 44 Tarzan issues with Kubert art and/or covers (not including reprints). See today's posts or more Kubert or Tarzan issues. See also this blog's Joe Kubert checklist.
