Jack Kirby's drawings abound with movement and excitement, and not just the four splash pages. On a double-page spread, a merchant ship is violently torn apart by the leviathan, starting a oceanwide rampage. The following title page captures the aftermath, as a handful of victims witness Orion's emergence from water (see interior page below). With this breathtaking issue (and with the help of inker Mike Royer), Kirby delivers his best
New Gods issue yet. Rounding out the issue are reprints from
Adventure Comics #75 (Manhunter) and
Real Fact Comics #1. "The Glory Boat" was later reprinted in

Thanks for posting. "The Glory Boat" must be one of Kirby's finest, most well-regarded stories, and deservedly so.
I always thought much of the Kirby bronze age DC work was overshadowed by his late 1960s Fantastic Four issues. I hope to make people more aware that he did equally good work elsewhere. Thanks for commenting,
