All Star Comics #50 - Frank Frazetta art

All-Star Comics #50, 1949 - Few people realize that Frank Frazetta contributed to this long running Justice Society of America title. Rather than doing a chapter featuring a JSA member (as was typical), he instead draws a back-up tale of one man's ordeal in the wilderness. Frazetta's renditions of a grizzly bear fall short, but his horses and mountain lions are visually splendid. Despite being crammed into only three pages, this true-life adventure benefits from the artist's gritty, heroic style. This is number 1 of 1 All Star Comics issues with Frazetta art and/or covers.
