Batman Spectacular / DC Special Series #15 - Marshall Rogers art & cover

Marshall Rogers

2.  Batman Spectacular / DC Special Series #15, 1978 - With the sudden death of the special prosecutor, the Batman must parse together clues that lead him to the infamous Lewes Mob. In true detective noir fashion, the story is told completely in long text. Marshall Rogers' illustrations are a perfect accompaniment, adding context and reinforcing moody settings. The proportions of words to images vary on each page, heightening excitement and tension. Rogers' visual storytelling, even in this non-traditional format, is absolutely stunning. Even the smallest panels are carefully designed and detailed. The sudden twist at the end is powerfully simple, drawn in black and white on the inside back cover. By comparison, Rogers' cover is just adequate and his back cover only reuses an interior page. Other artists in this comic include Mike Nasser, Joe Rubenstein, Dick Giordano and Michael Golden. This is 1 of 1 DC Special Series issues by Rogers. /// Top 10 Rogers comics

blogged about this issue a while ago. there is very little to match up to this dollar comic in DC's publishing history. The O'neill/rogers story pretty much kills in every square inch.

Three great stories from the days when Batman was a costumed detective, not a psychopath!Beautiful artwork from Rogers, Nasser ( very underrated )and Golden, who draws a mean Ra's Al Ghul and a gorgeous Talia.
Thanx for posting!
