Marvel Premiere #6 - Mike Ploog cover, Frank Brunner art

Mike Ploog
Marvel Premiere v1 #6 featuring Doctor Strange, 1973 - His first pencils on the series, Frank Brunner's struggles with the layouts and character's facial expressions. Sal Buscema's inks compound this further, adding too much detail and definition in many cases. The opening splash is the sole standout, and appears to have been inked by Ralph Reese (?). Mike Ploog's cover fares much better, although Dr. Strange seems secondary to the underwater alien life-form. Interestingly, the artist originally drew the woman facing the reader, but this final version makes much more sense. This is 2 of 4 Marvel Premiere issues by Ploog and 2 of 8 Marvel Premiere issues by Brunner. /// Ploog gallery / original cover

Having seen the original art for this cover somewhere online I can confirm that the woman was redrawn, likely by Frank Giacoia, or Marie Severin and Giacoia.

The woman's face looks like Severin, but not so much the body. The inks still look like Ploog to me. Based on what I've seen of her 1970s Sub-mariner work, her style even has a slight resemblance to Ploog. Interesting....
