Spyman v1 #1, 1966 - Touted in comic book guides as
Jim Steranko's first professional start in comics, his contribution is the diagram of a mysterious hand on the cover of
Spyman (also used on the opening splash below). Though competently drawn, its overall impact is far less than expected. George Tuska draws the bulk of the cover, along with one of the interior stories. There's also a Goodyear Aerospace ad by Neal Adams, which appeared in several Harvey titles from the same era. His illustrations are mostly technical, but in a style that's easily recognizable. This is 1 of 2

There's something very Kirbyish about the central figure in the red suit, don't you think?
Yes, and the fact that Kirby did some stuff for Harvey during this period makes me wonder. The background figures are Tuska for sure, but did Kirby provide a rough layout? Or was Tuska emulating Kirby? I'm guessing the latter.
