Journey Into Mystery #42 - Angelo Torres art

Journey Into Mystery v1 #42, 1957 - Futuristic spacemen in prehistoric settings? It must be the silver age of comics. Angelo Torres does an admirable job with this story, most notably on the finely detailed backgrounds. Perhaps because of the EC Comics-inspired theme, the opening panel feels comparable in style to friend and colleague Frank Frazetta. The remaining pages have the same textural quality of drawings, but are more recognizable as Torres' own hand. The issue also contains a fine early work by Gray Morrow. Other artists in this issue include John Forte, Pete Morisi, George Roussos, Robert Q Sale and Bill Everett (cover). This is number 2 of 4 Journey Into Mystery issues with Torres art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Torres or Journey Into Mystery issues. See also this blog's Angelo Torres checklist.
