Weird Worlds #1 - Joe Kubert cover + 1st issue

Joe Kubert
Weird Worlds v3 #1, 1972 - Due to the success of their Tarzan of the Apes series, DC licenses other Edgar Rice Burroughs characters to star in their own collective title. In this first issue, John Carter Warlord of Mars and David Innes begin as co-features. Joe Kubert's cover offers a glimpse of the characters, drawing in a looser style that begs for more definition. Note how Burrough's name, the Tarzan logo and the ape-man himself try to bring a familiarity to the new series. This issue also includes artwork by Murphy Anderson and Alan Weiss. This is 1 of 1 Weird Worlds v3 issues by Kubert. /// key 1st issue

I suspect the first issue's cover was rushed brcause DC had just downsized their 25-cent 48-page books down to 20-cent 36-page books and John Carter (in back of Tarzan) and Pellucidar (in back of Korak) were hustled into the brand-new Weird Worlds a month or two ahead of the original schedule!

Possibly. Don't forget this was one of DC's "weird" titles, along with Weird War, Weird Mystery, Weird Western (weird indeed)
