The Phantom v2 #69 - Don Newton cover, mis-attributed art

The Phantom v2 #69 charlton comic book cover art by Don Newton
Don Newton
The Phantom v2 #69, 1976 Don Newton relinquishes the interior art in this issue, but continues with this fine painted cover. The work is muddy and overdone at times, but is distinctive as well. His colors here are more muted than the standard comics of the era, but no less effective. He would eventually do seven covers in all for this flagship adventure title. Newton did not do the story art in this issue, despite the attribution by some comic book price guides. This is 3 of 7 Phantom issues by Newton. /// Newton gallery

I own this painting; the comic does it no justice at all.
