Frank Brunner

1.  Dr. Strange v2 #1, 1974 - Graduating from Marvel Premiere, Doctor Strange starts his second self-titled series. Silver Dagger makes his first appearance, attacking the hero's sanctum and kidnapping his beloved Clea. Frank Brunner's story art is capable but sometimes overworked by the inker. His cover, on the other hand, shows no lack of skill. A strong diagonal layout shows the hero fending off tentacled arms emerging from his mystical globe. The ornate background frame adds cohesion and sophistication. Great care is taken in rendering modeling and depth, especially in the figures. Brunner's best works are often covers, this first issue being the best of all. This Steve Englehart story was reprinted in Doctor Strange Special Edition #1. This is 1 of 11 Doctor Strange v2 issues by Brunner. /// key 1st appearance Silver Dagger, 1st issue / Top 10 Brunner comicsBrunner gallery / original page

For whatever reason, Brunner was not on my radar when I was young. I picked this issue up for the first time a couple years back and was really impressed with Brunner's work. And, yes, that cover is excellent!
